Makalu trekking in eastern Nepal is protected by the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project. Established in 1992, it covers 2330 sq km. Among the 16 mountains in the park, it is home to Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world (8463m/ 27,766ft).The world's fifth highest mountain. formerly a restricted area, it spans five major ecological zones the lush, tropical Arun Valley, dense forests of rhododendron and fir and alpine meadows truly stand out on the way to the mighty Barun Glacier. From the base camp there are spectacular views of Mt. Makalu, Campared to other trekking it is long but a tremendously exciting trek.We commence the trek by either taking a bus to Hille or by flight to Tumlingtar. Then comence trekking along the Arun River to the Makalu base camp. You will walk through beautiful rai and limbu settlements of num and with steep climbs to the Makalu Barun National Camp To reach base camp we need to traverse the Sherpani Col pass which is the main pass trail to join the Khumbu valley.
Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu Met Upon Arrival Transfer To Hotel.
Day 2: Day 2 Fly To Tumlingtar (950m/3,116ft). 50 Minute Flight O/N At Camp
Day 3: Day 3 Trek To Mani-Bhanjyang (1,200m/3,936ft). Walking 6 Hours. Camp.
Day 4: Day 4 Trek To Chichila (1,800m/5,904ft), 5-6 Hours Of Trekking O/N Camp
Day 5: Day 5 Trek To Num (1,500m/4,920ft). 5-6 Hours Of Trekking O/N Camp.
Day 6: Day 6 Trek To Seduwa (1,493m/4,897ft). 5 Hours Of Trekking. Camp.
Day 7: Day 7 Trek To Tashi Gaun (2,200m/7,216ft). 3-4 Hours Of Trekking O/N Camp.
Day 8: Day 8 Trek To Kahuma Danda (3,500m/11,480ft). Walking 6 Hours. Camp.
Day 9: Day 9 Trek To Mumbuk (3,400m/11,152ft). 5-6 Hours Of Trekking. Camp.
Day 10: Day 10 Trek To Nehe Kharka (3,750m/12,300ft). Walking 6 Hours. Camp.
Day 11: Day 11 Trek To Sherson (4,600m/15,088ft). Walking 6 Hours. Camp.
Day 12: Day 12 Acclimatization And Exploration Days. Camp.
Day 13: Day 13 Acclimatization And Exploration Days. Camp.
Day 14: Day 14 Trek To Yangri Kharka (3,645m/11,956ft). Walking 6 Hours. Camp.

Day 19: Day 19 Trek To Chichila (1,800m/5,904ft). 5-6 Hours Of Trekking. Camp.
Day 20: Day 20 Trek To Khadbari. 6-7 Hours Of Trekking. Camp.
Day 21: Day 21 Trek Back To Tumlingtar (950m/3,116ft). Walking 5 Hours. Camp.
Day 22: Day 22 Fly Back To Kathmandu. Hotel
Day 23: Day 23 Departure To Onward Destination Or Rest Tour In Nepal

Island Peak expedition
Nepal Social Treks was the most professional company I have travelled with. The airport pickup was smooth, followed by a nice stay at their hotel in Kathmandu. A day trip around Kathmandu was planned and despite being cut short, it was a very enjoyable tour. Pasang Sherpa, the trekking guide for my trip was a highly experienced guide and mountaineer and gave me an authentic Nepalese experience as we walked through the Himalayas. When it came time to summit Island Peak, I had absolute confidence in his ability to keep me safe at all times, and he led the expedition at my pace. As an inexperienced climber, Pasang made sure I had all the required skills before going onto the mountain. The transition from trekking to life back in Kathmandu was easy, and Basu and the team from Nepal Social Treks made sure I had a comfortable and enjoyable few days prior to leaving Nepal. Perfect taste of Nepal
Did the Explore Nepal tour 11 days and was the only one on the tour. The tour was very well organized, hitting all the main attractions to give a good flavour of Nepal. Operator was very responsive to questions and requests. Accommodations were better than expected with excellent beds and breakfasts. Highly recommend.
Two First-Timers, One Incredible ABC Trek—Thanks to an Amazing Team!
If you’re scanning through endless trek companies in Nepal (like we did!), trust me—Nepal Social Treks and Expedition is the one you’ll end up loving. We literally made a massive Excel sheet comparing quotations from almost every company out there 😂… and guess who came out on top? These guys! From day one, Sushila was our guiding light. She answered every tiny question we threw at her—with so much patience and warmth. And then there’s Mr. Basu, the owner. I only spoke to him a couple of times (because the Gen-Z protest had us all restless), but the way he comforted us on the call… rare to see that kind of calm reassurance from someone at his level.
