Tukuche Peak Expedition is as popular as Gurja Himal Expedition in the Dhaulagiri Region. It is an opportunity of a lifetime to uncover the tranquilizing beauty of Nepal’s surreal landscapes. The 23-days-long adventure takes you through some of the Dhaulagiri Region’s hidden-gems until you complete the successful summit of Tukuche Peak.
Standing tall at an elevation of 6920 meters (22703ft), Tukuche Peak stands exactly in front of the Annapurna Massif and Mount Dhaulagiri I (8167m). The peak is a very picturesque and almost symmetrical two-ridge pyramid with Northwest and Southeast ridges radiating from the summit.
You will begin this incredible expedition with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Before that, you will spend an extra day in the capital, exploring the cultural and natural heritage around the valley. The adventure gets exciting with a short-but-adventurous flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. From there, you will drive to Marpha, which is the starting point of the trek.
As you walk past the amazing landscapes and compelling vegetation the Dhaulagiri Region has at your disposal, you will take an extra acclimatization day in Yak Kharka. You will traverse through the Kali Gandaki Valley and Hidden Valley until you rest your feet in Tukuche Base Camp— the starting point of the climb to Tukuche Peak.
Before you gear up to accomplish the ultimate challenge of the expedition, our Sherpa crew will set up two higher camps in between the Tukuche Base Camp and the summit of Tukuche Peak. Camp I (5600m) and Camp II (6200m) will both serve as the place to rest and acclimatize before the ultimate summit of Tukuche Peak.
As you face the challenges and reach the top of Tukuche Peak, you will be mesmerized by the surrounding views. The summit presents you with some close-up views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges as well as other surrounding peaks.
Usually, Autumn and Spring are considered the ideal seasons to take on this expedition. You can get the most out of the journey in March, April, September, and October, as the weather remains on your side. Plus, the natural scenery remains polished in this time frame.
We are here to collaborate with you to ensure your quest for completing this thrilling expedition remains risk-free and well-ordered with our excellent support and guidance. We present to you the team of experts with all the mountaineering experiences and skills to help you achieve this wonderful feat.
This expedition is one better way to adapt yourself to the pleasing and strenuous landscapes of Nepal before you prepare for bigger expeditions like the Kanchenjunga Expedition and Annapurna Expedition.
Short History of Tukuche Peak
Hugh Merrick of a Swiss team first climbed the Tukuche Peak in 1969. The team took almost 4 years to prepare for the summit of this unclimbed mountain. The first group summited the peak in the spring season.
Is This Tukuche Peak Expedition Right For You?
- The weather can be unpredictable at higher altitudes as it can also affect your expedition and put it to a halt. Make sure you consider the time of the year you wish to take on the journey as the scenery and conditions vary between seasons.
- For about a week or more, you will have to walk for 5 to 7 hours, excluding the climb itself. So, make sure that you are up for the challenge. If you have been practicing some kind of climbing exercises prior to the expedition, it will be helpful.
- The tea houses that you stay throughout the trekking period are straightforward, with only the basic facilities. Access to electricity for charging electronic devices will cost you extra. Wi-Fi is available at a few locations, but connections may be weak. However, you can get the full facility when you are staying in the hotel at Kathmandu and Pokhara.
- The most crucial part of the expedition includes the scaling of Tukuche Peak. The climb is somewhat challenging, so keep in check that you have a good climbing experience before taking on this expedition.
- The expedition includes several days of camping over 3000 meters, where there is the risk of being affected by Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). You may notice shortness of breath and mild headache, but your guide will make sure you walk slowly to let your body adjust to the thinning air.
Our guides and Sherpas are well-trained in first aid. They will be carrying emergency medicines to help you in time of difficulty. In extreme cases, we will rescue you using a helicopter. If you are unsure about your physical ability, seek medical advice before booking this expedition.

Review

Nar phu valley trek with Kamal guide, perfect!
My partner and I went on a 9-day trek in the Nar and Phu Valley. Our Kamal guide was just perfect! Professional and very nice, he accompanied us along with the porter Prim throughout the itinerary, adapting it to our needs and desires. I don't think we could have fallen into better hands than Kamal, he promptly solved all the little problems we encountered, he was fantastic as was the porter Prim. Amazing experience thank you!

Nepal Social Treks Review
I’ve just completed the 15 day Everest Base Camp trek with Nepal Social Treks and can’t praise the company, guide & porter highly enough. My guide in particular, Lhakpa was an absolute star who could not do enough to make the time away as comfortable as possible. Considerate, knowledgeable, funny, kind & inspiring. I genuinely don’t think I could have completed the trek without their support! A lifetime ambition completed thanks :)

EBC by Gokyo
If you are planning to do the EBC, the Agency should be Nepal Social Trek and the Guide should be Santa Thabir Magar. Permanent communication during trekking and excellent coordination at all times. The alternative I recommend is Gokyo. Something heavier than the classic, but definitely extraordinary. Also the views of the great mountains during the circuit, are not to forget them

Grazie grazie grazie
Great Anil Sherpa
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the provision for security during trekking?
Well, you should know that the security of our clients is crucial for us. We have a carefully chosen team of guides and support crew. They hold licenses issued by the Government of Nepal. They are honest and reliable to have on your journey.
However, we advise you to take care of your personal belongings. When you are camping, don’t leave your bags unattended at any time for your safety. Place your bags and belongings inside the tent once you reach the campsite. When you are sleeping in a local tea house, keep your room locked when you head out.
What is the overnight accommodation like?
When you are staying in Kathmandu and Pokhara, your accommodation will be in 3-star hotels packed with all the major facilities. On the other hand, when you are trekking, the accommodation will depend on the trek style. If you are camping, you will be sleeping in tents.
Besides, when you are on the go, there are plenty of tea houses, particularly in the smaller villages, to provide you comfortable accommodation. Although simple, the teahouses, normally run by friendly local families, do provide shelter and warmth.
How fit should I have to be to go on the Tukuche Peak Expedition?
You need to have a proper level of fitness and need to have the prior climbing experience to take part in this Tukuche Peak Expedition. You need to walk for 5-7 hours each day on undulating trails while gaining altitude throughout this expedition. Hence, you should be physically prepared to overcome the challenges of the mountain.
You don’t need to worry a bit! We will guide you thoroughly as to which physical exercise and technique you need to learn.
Who will be my guide?
At Nepal Social Treks, we offer you some of the experienced local guides. On each expedition, our guides have been to the relevant areas many times. All the guides are flexible, experienced, and authorized by the Government of Nepal.
Our guides are professionals in mountaineering with extensive knowledge on the Himalayas, more than 5 years of experience with at least 3 times summit of Mount Everest, and are trained and assessed by the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) or Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) with many years of Mountaineering experience in the world’s highest mountains.
How difficult is this Tukuche Peak Expedition?
The difficulty level of Tukuche Peak Expedition depends on these common factors:
Weather conditions and temperature
Climbing route
Your physical fitness
Basic climbing tricks and skills
High altitude sickness
Total distance covered in the whole adventure
Clothing and necessary equipment
Am I likely to get altitude sickness on this expedition?
As the elevation on this expedition exceeds 6500m, the possibilities of getting altitude sickness are generally high. You will have less contact with oxygen as you summit the top of Tukuche Peak. However, we have designed the itinerary in a way that you get a proper time to acclimatize. Our guides have years of experience handling this kind of situation as they are trained well in using first-aid kits.
On top of that, our guides will carry emergency oxygen with a regulator and mask while climbing so that you can receive immediate help when you need it. In case your situation worsens, we will carry out the emergency rescue evacuation as per the company’s rule.
What is the best time to take on Tukuche Peak Expedition?
The best time to carry out this Tukuche Peak Expedition is between April and May in spring, October, and November in the fall. During these timeframes, the weather stays on your side, and you won’t experience any difficulties while moving to higher altitudes. The Northwest ridge is considered the best route for you to climb this spectacular mountain.
How do I get help if there is an emergency?
If you get caught up in a serious emergency, our climbing guide will help you with safety care, medical treatment, and communication services. Communication is made possible through satellite phones, so a guide will help you if something critical happens. If you are not well to continue your summit, a helicopter will come to your rescue.
Do I need to tip the climbing guide and porter during this expedition?
Usually, climbing guides and porters expect some tips after the successful summit of the peak. You can tip them according to the satisfaction of your entire trip. The guides typically get USD300-500 while the porters get USD150.
What kind of insurance do I need for this expedition?
We recommend you get full insurance that includes travel, medical, and emergency evacuation to avoid unnecessary expenses in case of any unfortunate incident. Choose your insurance wisely, and if you have trouble, we can direct you just to the right one.
